Abstract
The human increase the activities in the offshore environment, such as building the wind farms, dredging operations and even to establish the marine-reserve regions. The studies of marine geology and morphology have led to an imperative demand for accurate seafloor map. We need knowledge of the seafloor topography and detailed information about the seafloor composition and sediment in the deeper layer. The conventional way to get information about the seafloor composition is to take physical sediment samples such as core, grabbing sample. But these procedures is expensive and time-consuming. We can save the effort of boreholes investigations. A more useful technique, which provides high spatial coverage at limited costs within a short time, is acoustic remote sensing. Such technique has been successfully developed that classifies the seabed surface using sidescan sonars and SBP profile. In this paper, we discuss how to use Sidescan sonar and SBP profiler to get the information about sediment.
